What is a place, a page, a space and a blog?

The structure of a Netcipia place is not complex. However, it is useful to understand the difference between several concepts:

  • the place
  • the page
  • the space
  • the blog

The place

The place is what you create when you click on "create a Netcipia place" on the Netcipia website:

or when you are on your myNetcipia web page:

You can create as many places you want. Don't forget that a place can store up to 2 GB of data.

You can invite an unlimited number of people and create an unlimited number of pages within a place.

To manage your places, when you go to myNetcipia (http://www.netcipia.net), you have access to the list of the places you have created yourself, or the places where you have been invited by another person:

As an owner, you can manage rights and members for each of your places.

As a member, you can't manage anything, except if the owner gave you the admin rights. In this case, you will be also able to manage members and rights.

The page

When you first log on to your place recently created, you will see the first page of your place, the welcome page:

You can edit (modify) a page by clicking on the "Edit this page" action button:

Other sections of this tutorial are dedicated to page creation, writing and links.

A page has a name and a title. The name must be a short codification. The title can have any length you want.

The space

A space is a collection of pages within the place. A place can have an unlimited number of spaces.

A space is a convenient way to embed a list of pages in a most relevant category. But the first objective for a space is to separate its pages from those of other spaces. This way, it will be possible to give different rights or properties to a space in relation to another space. And all the pages of this space will inherit these characteristics.

By default, when you arrive at your place for the first time, 3 spaces are already created:

  • the "Main" space: it contains the welcome page and will contain any other page you will create within the Main section.
  • the "Blog" space: this space is different, because it displays the pages of its space in a blog "format", each page displayed in the major page, one below the other. See more below.
  • the "Photo" space:in this space, you will be able to create photo albums. Each photo album will be a page in this space, a page to which you will be able to attach picture files to be displayed as an album of photos.
ATTENTION
Each space has a welcome home page, name WebHome. It is very important to setup its content with any text of presentation you want. It can be a welcome text, or a table of content linking to the other pages, or any other content you want to put.

If you want to delete a space, you must first delete all the other pages of the space, and delete the WebHome page at the end.

The blog

The blog is a particular space. Without going into all the details because an entire section of this Tutorial is dedicated to how to use the blog, it is necesary to understand that it works differently than any other space. The main page of the blog is a special page that you don't modify. It is a computed page to display the other pages of the blog, the posts.

For more details, see the Blog part of the tutorial.
